About

FromTheClinic Education (FTCE) is the online arm of Life Rehabilitation International, Inc. (LRII), a 501(c)3 non-profit. LRII was formed to assist our neighbors around the globe in need of medical care and medical education. Care and education are currently centered within the specialty of Chronic Lymphatic System Failure. This disease is seen in tropical areas of the world with Lymphatic Filariasis, Elephantiasis and Podoconiosis. Other areas of the world see Chronic Lymphatic System Failure due to Vascular Insufficiency, Primary and Acquired Lymphedema and Chronic Wounds with catalysts ranging from disease to surgical complications to nutritional deficits to trauma.
Life Rehab organizes and leads teams of clinicians into areas where medical care is scarce and areas where our global neighbors are not getting the care they truly need and deserve. Although donations are appreciated, most clinicians self-fund their travel and lodging and by using vacation days at work. Suitcase-loads of supplies are brought along; some times the clinicians have purchased them with their own funds or gathered from local companies as donations. Trips range from 10 days to 3 weeks depending on the distance traveled and the depth of need in that country.
The model used when LRII comes into a country to treat patients has an equally important second arm, that of education. While many humanitarian groups kindly bring care and resources to an area, LRII brings an additional facet to humanitarian care. A large part of each journey is spent educating the local practitioners how to treat their patients AFTER the team has left. The structured model designed and used by LRII, plans for LRII being in an area for a period of 18 months to 2 years. A preliminary recon trip is taken to locate clinic space and to find 3-5 local individuals interested in learning how to treat these diseases. Once everything is set, the initial Master Team comes to the clinic and begins the process of treating and teaching generally for two to three weeks. As the two years progress, more and more of the acute care is passed to the local practitioners with the U.S. team moving into a mentoring/resource role. During this two year period, teams come 2-3 times per year from the U.S. and Canada to educate. It is also during this time sponsors for needed consumables and payroll are located and put into place as all care is provided on a donation only basis - patients are never charged for even their compression wraps. At the end of the time when the local clinicians are able to take over the clinic with sponsorships in place, the U.S Team remains available as a resource but at that time the LRII team moves on to planning/traveling for the next location to set up the next clinic. This is the backbone of Life Rehab International. For receive more information on LRII, click here
During our years of global travel it has also become evident that not only are our neighbors across the globe in need of educational resources, there is also a great need from our neighbors right across the hall from us for education on Lymphedema and Chronic Lymphatic system Failure within North America as well. This site is dedicated to that education.
